Top bar not showing

What you should see

After setup, EdminBoost adds your chosen shortcuts to the black WordPress admin bar at the top of wp-admin (and on the front end if you are logged in and the admin bar is visible there).

If those extra links never appear, work through the list below from top to bottom.

1. EdminBoost is active

• In Plugins, confirm EdminBoost is activated (not just installed).
• Open EdminBoost → Top Bar and make sure at least one link is on the canvas (not an empty list).
• Click Save and wait for the success message.

2. The admin bar is turned on for your user

EdminBoost shortcuts sit on the normal WordPress admin bar. If that bar is hidden, you will not see EdminBoost links either.

• In wp-admin, open your user profile.
• Check “Show Toolbar when viewing site” (wording may vary slightly).
• Save the profile and reload an admin page.

Some themes or plugins hide the admin bar on the front end. That is expected—you usually still see the bar inside wp-admin.

3. You have links saved for your role

• Open EdminBoost → Layout Presets and check role assignments. If your role uses a preset with an empty top bar, you may see nothing.
• On Top Bar, confirm links exist in the canvas, then Save.
• If you use the role visibility matrix, make sure the slugs for your top bar links are not hidden for your role.

4. WordPress permissions filter links

You only see shortcuts to screens your account can open. An administrator sees more than an editor.

• Test while logged in as an administrator first.
• If it works for admin but not for a client role, adjust role assignments or the visibility matrix on Layout Presets.

5. You finished setup

The live bar needs a configured layout. If you skipped the wizard:

• Run through EdminBoost → Dashboard setup, or
• Add links on Top Bar and Save.

6. Caching or optimization plugins

Aggressive minify/cache on admin pages can break admin JavaScript.

• Temporarily disable admin caching or optimization for logged-in users.
• Hard-refresh the browser (Ctrl+F5 or Cmd+Shift+R).

7. Another plugin replaces the admin bar

Rarely, a plugin rebuilds the entire admin bar and drops custom nodes.

• Switch to a default theme briefly and deactivate suspect plugins one at a time to find a conflict.

Still stuck?

• Note whether the default WordPress bar shows at all.
• Note your role (Administrator, Editor, etc.).
• Export settings (EdminBoost → Settings) for support or backup before bigger changes.
