Who this guide is for
You want the default WordPress admin bar (black bar at the top) to show less noise—while keeping your EdminBoost shortcuts.
Important distinction
- Declutter removes core WordPress admin bar items (logo, “+ New”, etc.).
- Your custom shortcuts are built separately on EdminBoost → Top Bar.
They work well together: hide clutter, show only the links you chose.
Where to find declutter settings
EdminBoost → Theme (Appearance).
Scroll to the admin bar declutter section. A small preview shows which default items disappear when each toggle is on.
What you can hide
Typical toggles (labels may vary slightly in the UI):
- WordPress logo — the W menu on the left.
- Updates counter — update notification badge on the bar.
- Howdy / account phrasing — simplifies the “Howdy, Name” area.
- Comments — comments node on the bar.
- New content — the “+ New” dropdown.
- Customize — customize link when it appears on the bar.
Turn on the items you want hidden, then click Save.
Suggested client-site combo
For handoff sites, many agencies enable:
- WordPress logo
- New content
- Comments
- Customize
Then they rely on EdminBoost top bar links for Posts, Pages, Media, and Orders.
What declutter does not do
- It does not remove the admin bar entirely.
- It does not hide the left sidebar menu—that is Menu Studio and the role matrix.
- It does not remove EdminBoost top bar items you added on Top Bar.
Other plugins
Some plugins add their own admin bar nodes. Declutter only targets the core toggles listed on the Theme page. Extra nodes may need plugin-specific settings or Menu Studio / role visibility.
Tips
- Use the live preview on the Theme page before saving.
- Pair declutter with a calm theme preset (Default, Midnight, or a light custom palette).
- Re-check after major WordPress or plugin updates in case new bar items appear.
