Client site setup

Who this guide is for

You built a WordPress site for a client and want a clean admin: fewer distractions, clear shortcuts, and optional branding before handoff.

What you will set up

EdminBoost can give clients a focused top bar, a simpler sidebar, a matching theme, and (optional) white-label branding—without changing WordPress core.

Quick start (about 10 minutes)

  1. Install and activate EdminBoost.
  2. Open EdminBoost → Dashboard and finish the setup wizard, or skip to manual setup below.
  3. Pick a layout meant for client handoff.
  4. Tidy the admin bar and theme.
  5. Hide menu items the client should not see.
  6. Save and test as a client-role user.

Step 1 — Choose a client-friendly layout

Go to EdminBoost → Layout Presets (sidebar may say “Layouts”).

Good starting presets:

  • Client’s Website — content tools (posts, pages, media) plus Appearance in a slide-out panel so theme settings stay out of the way.
  • Content Editor — even simpler bar focused on writing and media.

Select the preset, check the top bar and sidebar previews, then click Save.

Step 2 — Match the look

Go to EdminBoost → Theme.

  • Pick a preset that fits the brand (light mode is often easiest for non-technical users).
  • Turn on declutter options (see the decluttered admin bar guide) to hide WordPress logo, “+ New”, comments, and similar clutter.
  • Click Save.

Step 3 — Trim the sidebar

Go to EdminBoost → Menu Studio.

  • Turn on Menu Studio if it is off.
  • Drag important items to the top; hide plugins, tools, or settings the client should not open.
  • Optionally add a custom link (support doc, booking page, etc.).
  • Click Save.

Step 4 — Limit what each role sees

Still on Layout Presets, scroll to role assignments and the visibility matrix.

  • Assign Editor (or Client) to your client layout preset.
  • In the matrix, uncheck menu items that role should not see.
  • Dashboard, Plugins, and EdminBoost stay protected for safety.
  • Click Save.

Step 5 — Optional white label

Go to the White Label tab.

  • Replace the plugin name in the menu, add your agency favicon, or show a short system status line in the admin footer.
  • Click Save.

Step 6 — Test before handoff

  • Log in as an Editor (or the role your client uses).
  • Confirm top bar links work, the sidebar shows only what you expect, and hidden screens stay hidden.
  • Fix anything on Top Bar, Menu Studio, or Layout Presets, then Save again.

Tips

  • Save a copy of the layout: Layout Presets → Save current layout as preset (name it after the client).
  • Export settings (EdminBoost → Settings) before go-live so you can clone the setup on another site.
  • Keep one administrator account for yourself; give the client Editor or a custom role with fewer caps.
