Only users who can manage site options—usually Administrators—can open EdminBoost’s settings screens and save changes.
Who can open EdminBoost in wp-admin
EdminBoost checks the WordPress capability manage_options. In a typical site, that means:
- Administrator — yes, full access to Dashboard, Layout Presets, Theme, Top Bar, Menu Studio, Productivity, Security, Performance, White Label, Billing, and Settings.
- Editor, Author, Contributor, Subscriber — no access to EdminBoost admin pages.
- Shop manager or other custom roles — only if that role was explicitly given manage_options (uncommon).
If someone without permission tries to open EdminBoost URLs directly, WordPress blocks them.
Who sees EdminBoost on the admin bar and sidebar
That is separate from who can configure the plugin.
- Any logged-in user with the admin bar showing may see EdminBoost top bar shortcuts—if links were configured and their role is allowed to see those slugs.
- Menu Studio and the role visibility matrix control which left-menu items each role sees.
- WordPress capabilities still apply: a user cannot open a screen they are not allowed to access, even if a link appears.
So: clients might see a simplified bar and menu, but they cannot change EdminBoost unless they are an administrator (or have manage_options).
Can I give an editor access to only some EdminBoost pages?
Not out of the box. EdminBoost uses one capability for all its settings screens. To let non-admins configure it, a custom role plugin would need to grant manage_options—which usually gives broad site access, not just EdminBoost.
Safer approach for clients:
- Keep EdminBoost admin for your agency account.
- Use role assignments and the visibility matrix so editors see only the menus and shortcuts you want.
Multisite super admins
On a multisite network, super admins can access site admin on each site and typically have manage_options there. Network-level “network admin” is separate; EdminBoost settings live per site (see multisite FAQ).
Testing as a client
- Create a test Editor user.
- Log in in a private window.
- Confirm they do not see the EdminBoost sidebar menu item (unless white label renamed it for admins only—they still should not access settings without capability).
- Confirm top bar and sidebar match what you configured for that role.
