Resume sections explained

When you start from a Rezicraft template, sample content demonstrates a proven resume structure. This article explains each section and what to put in it.

Header (Name, Title, Contact)

Purpose: First impression — who you are and how to reach you.

Includes:

  • Full name — prominent heading at the top
  • Professional title — your current or target role (e.g. “Senior Product Manager”)
  • Contact line — phone, email, LinkedIn, city/location separated by bullets (•)

Tips:

  • Use a professional email address
  • LinkedIn URL can be shorthand (linkedin.com/in/yourname)
  • City-level location is usually enough; full street address is rarely needed

Summary

Purpose: A brief professional overview — your elevator pitch in 2–4 sentences.

What to write:

  • Years of experience and core specialty
  • Key strengths relevant to your target role
  • One notable achievement or value proposition

Tips:

  • Write in third person or first person without “I” overload — be concise
  • Tailor the summary for each resume version when applying to different roles

Skills

Purpose: Quick-scan list of competencies grouped by category.

Structure:

  • Category label (e.g. Business, Technology, Languages)
  • Skills separated by bullets on the same line or as a compact list

Example categories:

  • Business — project management, stakeholder management, budgeting
  • Technology — Excel, SQL, Python, Salesforce
  • Languages — English (native), Spanish (professional)

Tips:

  • Match skills to keywords from job descriptions you target
  • Avoid listing every tool you have ever touched — focus on relevant strengths

Experience

Purpose: Your work history with measurable achievements.

Structure per employer:

  1. Company name and location
  2. Job title and dates (e.g. Jan 2020 – Present)
  3. Bullet points describing accomplishments

Tips:

  • Lead bullets with action verbs: Led, Built, Increased, Delivered, Managed
  • Quantify impact: percentages, dollar amounts, team sizes, timelines
  • Most recent role first
  • Multiple roles at one company can be listed under the same employer heading

Education

Purpose: Degrees, institutions, and graduation timelines.

Structure per entry:

  1. School name and location
  2. Degree and dates

Tips:

  • Include relevant coursework or honors only if early career or highly relevant
  • Certifications often fit better in the Certificates section

Courses & Certificates

Purpose: Professional certifications, licenses, and completed courses.

Structure:

  • Certificate name — issuing organization, year

Examples:

  • PMP — Project Management Institute, 2024
  • Google Analytics Certification — Google, 2023

Interests & Hobbies (optional)

Purpose: Humanize your profile and provide conversation starters in interviews.

Structure:

  • Short titled items with one-line descriptions, often in columns

Tips:

  • Keep it professional — avoid controversial topics
  • Optional section; remove entirely if it does not add value

City template differences

Pro city templates may present these sections in different visual arrangements — sidebar layouts, accent bars, split columns — but the content types remain the same. Edit all sections using Gutenberg blocks regardless of template.
